Cities have sexes: London is a man, Paris a woman, and New York a well-adjusted transsexual.
-Angela Carter, Expletives Deleted, essay on James Joyce
I was looking at them tonight, and I thought: If I ever lose my sense of wonder at being able to debate these Paris versus New York things in the first place — these multi-city thoughts; if I ever lose my perspective on the fact that I am a yuppie asshole for having deep feelings about some of this stuff…
…Someone punch me.
That being said, even the post cards make one thing very clear:
While Paris has its objective beauty, Lady Liberty always, undoubtedly and undeniably, comes first.
(Throughout the month of June, I’ll be writing a series of New York-related posts, and/or inviting some friends to guest post about their New York experiences, to celebrate my eight years in New York City.)
